It was an action-packed opening day yesterday at Vero Beach Tennis & Fitness Club with the first round of qualifiers being played on courts throughout the facility. South Carolina’s Ryan Haviland closed out the first day of play Monday with a 7-5, 7-6 (3) win over Facundo Bermejo of Argentina at dusk, just in time before the match could have been postponed due to darkness. Sam Sippel of Orchid Island Club, the winner of “King of the Hill” competition in February, and Yohann Prinsen of Vero Club Tennis, will play their main draw doubles match tonight, Tuesday April 22, at 5 pm. They drew the No. 2 seeded team of Strong Kirchheimer of Highland Park, Ill., and Karl Poling of Boise, Idaho.
Come out and watch these up-and-coming tennis stars, enjoy the company of fellow tennis fans, and support our cause to help more kids stay active and healthy.
The Saussie Pig Food Truck will be on site all day serving lunch and dinner. Beverages will be served.

Weekday sessions at the $15,000 Mardy Fish Children’s Foundation Tennis Championships USTA Pro Circuit event at the Vero Beach Tennis & Fitness Club start at 11 am with a feature match at 5 pm.
Monday, April 21 – First round of qualifying singles
Tuesday, April 22 – Final round of qualifying singles, main draw doubles first round
Wednesday, April 23 – First round of main draw singles
Thursday, April 24 – Second round of main draw singles, quarterfinals of doubles
Friday, April 25 – Quarterfinals of main draw singles, semifinals of doubles
Saturday, April 26 – Semifinals of main draw singles (noon), doubles final.
Sunday, April 27 – Singles Final (1 pm)
